Why buyers use a sourcing agent instead of going direct to factories

A furniture sourcing agent in China sits between you and the factory. They know which factories are worth working with, which ones cut corners, and which ones will cause problems when production is finished and your container is three weeks from your destination port.

Going direct to a factory seems like the logical way to cut costs. In practice, it works well once you have established relationships and know exactly what you’re buying. For buyers entering the Chinese market for the first time, or for project buyers who need multiple categories simultaneously, a sourcing agent removes the risk of factory selection, handles the language barrier at the specification level — not just the sales level — and manages production follow-up so you’re not chasing factories across time zones.

01
Factory sourcing & vetting
Identifying factories with the right capability, quality standard, and export experience for your specific product. Not every factory in Foshan is worth working with — selecting the right one before paying a deposit matters.
02
Price negotiation
Negotiating in Mandarin at the factory level — not at the showroom level. The price you get through a local agent with an ongoing factory relationship is different from the price a foreign buyer is quoted on their first visit.
03
Specification & sampling
Translating your brief — photos, floor plans, material specs, finish samples — into factory-level production specifications. Managing sample production and approval before committing to full order quantities.
04
Production follow-up
Tracking production progress and flagging issues before they become delayed shipments. The factories we work with understand that inspection happens before packing — not after.
05
Quality inspection
Pre-shipment inspection at the factory before anything is packed. AQL sampling, photo documentation, and written reports. Problems caught at the factory are fixed at the factory’s cost — problems caught at your destination are your cost.
06
Consolidation & shipment
Packing multiple factories’ goods into one container from a single consolidation point near Foshan. One set of freight costs, one customs entry, one delivery to your port — regardless of how many suppliers were involved.

The world’s furniture is made here. We’re here too.

Foshan isn’t one of China’s furniture production centres — it is the furniture production centre. The manufacturing density in Lecong, Longjiang, and Shunde means that a buyer can source a complete hotel FF&E package, full villa furnishing, or office fit-out from factories within a 30-kilometre radius. That density collapses lead times, reduces freight costs, and makes consolidated shipments practical in a way that sourcing across multiple Chinese cities simply isn’t.

Being a furniture sourcing agent in Foshan specifically — not just in China generally — means we have supplier relationships built over years of weekly factory visits, not a database of names. When a problem occurs at production stage, we can be at the factory the same day. That’s not possible from Guangzhou or Shanghai.

  • 3,000+ Furniture factories in Foshan’s manufacturing cluster — the highest density of furniture production anywhere in the world
  • 60% Of China’s ceramic tiles are produced in Foshan — making it equally dominant in building materials
  • ~60min To Guzhen, Zhongshan — the world’s largest lighting manufacturing and wholesale cluster
  • 2× /yr CIFF Guangzhou trade fair — the largest international furniture exhibition in China, 30 minutes from Foshan

Buyers sometimes ask whether sourcing from Vietnam or Indonesia is now better value given US tariff pressures. For buyers supplying markets outside the United States — Australia, the UK, Europe, the Middle East, Africa — the answer is no. The US tariff situation is a US-market issue. For all other destination markets, Foshan’s supply chain remains what it has always been: the most developed, most diverse, and most price-competitive furniture manufacturing ecosystem in the world. Model 1 — Direct Supply
We source and supply at an all-in price

We quote you a price per item that includes our margin. You don’t deal with factories directly — we manage the entire supply chain and you receive a single quotation covering all items. Factory identities are not disclosed. This is the standard model for most importers and project buyers.

Most common — used by importers and project buyers
Model 2 — Guided Sourcing Visit
We accompany you through Foshan’s markets and factories

If you want to visit Foshan in person to select products and meet factories directly, we work as your guide and interpreter at a daily fee, plus a percentage on orders placed. Covers market visits, factory introductions, price negotiation, and all coordination during your trip.

For buyers who want to visit China themselves

What buyers usually ask before getting started

What’s the minimum order size you work with?

We don’t have a fixed minimum. We’re set up for project buyers and importers sourcing across multiple categories — a single item order doesn’t make economic sense for either party, but a full room, a container of chairs, or a complete hotel FF&E brief all work. If you’re unsure whether your scope is the right fit, send us the brief and we’ll tell you honestly.

Do you work with buyers who have never imported from China before?

Yes — and frequently. First-time importers often find the process more manageable than they expected once there’s a local agent managing the factory side. We handle the Mandarin communication, factory selection, spec documentation, and inspection. You handle the destination-country import process with your local freight forwarder and customs broker. We can recommend experienced forwarders for most major destination countries if you need one.

How long does a typical furniture order take from enquiry to delivery?

For standard catalogue items with no customisation: 1–2 weeks from deposit to FOB. For customised furniture with sample approval: 3–8 weeks. Add 2–6 weeks of ocean freight depending on your destination. Hotel and large residential projects with multiple categories typically run on a 16–24 week full timeline. We’ll give you a specific timeline when we see your scope.

Can you source building materials as well as furniture?

Yes — and this is one of the practical advantages of being based in Foshan specifically. Tiles, sanitary ware, kitchen cabinets, doors, windows, and lighting from Guzhen can all be sourced and consolidated into the same container as your furniture. Most of our project clients combine at least two categories. See the full list of what we source →

What countries do you ship to?

We ship FOB from Foshan/Guangzhou to any destination worldwide. We’ve shipped to the US, Australia, the UK, Canada, France, Africa, the UAE, Thailand, Singapore and many more. We work with freight forwarders on all major trade lanes. If your country has specific import requirements — Australia’s DAFF biosecurity, UK fire safety regulations, Canadian CBSA documentation — we know what’s needed and ensure it’s in order before the container ships.
