Foshan Furniture Wholesale Markets Guide

Let’s get straight to the point.

The furniture wholesale markets in Foshan are HUGE.

And even if you’re in the markets already, you can still feel lost. (That’s how I felt the first time I tried to find products in there)

Don’t worry.

I’m writing this post to share with you everything I know after exploring the furniture markets for months.

For what?

For helping you and potentially doing furniture business with you for a win-win cooperation.

Of course, you make your own decisions.

Let’s get started.

Overview of Foshan furniture wholesale market

Geolocation Overview

There are in total over 10 furniture wholesale markets in Foshan, big and small, and you don’t need to explore each and every one of them.

To make things better, they’re right next to each other so you don’t have to wander around places.

The general area is called: Lecong.

Lecong is a town that belongs to Shunde district, Foshan city, Guangdong province in China.

Here are the 5 main wholesale markets in Lecong, mapped below:

Here’s Louvre on the map. (So you can get there and explore the rest markets as well)

Which markets should you explore?

With the chart above, it’s not difficult to make a decision anymore.

However, there are some techniques you can use to maximize your spending.

If you need the best quality, best designs and are OK with high prices, Louvre is the NO. 1 choice.

If you need good quality, good designs and are OK with comparatively high prices, Sunlink north is a good choice.

If you are cost sensitive, Empire, Sunlink south and Tuanyi (if you need office furniture) are your options.

The technique is: if you have enough time, you can actually visit Louvre and Sunlink north first, to have an idea about trending designs. Then, you can explore the rest for similar designs with lower prices.

But, and here’s a big BUT.

You get what you pay for.

By buying from Louvre and Sunlink north, generally speaking, you get better guarantee apart from their qualities and deisgns.

And the reason why I’m using “generally speaking” is, there are inevitably shady players in any market. So, you still need to be careful in selecting your suppliers.

And if you want to buy cheap:

Remember that lower prices may come with trade-offs in design, quality, or customer service.

And sometimes, you don’t even know what you’re buying with the low prices you’re paying.

For furniture products, especially those you can’t see inside the products, like sofas and cushioned chairs, you never know if the products you’re buying are made of materials like below:

So, while exploring more possibilities for more profit or lower cost, don’t forget the most fundamental fact: everything comes at a cost.

And if something is obviously cheaper than the market average, you’d better expect some “surprises”.

Shady players can cut corners in many aspects, sometimes more than what you can imagine: the thickness of the material, the quality of the material, the density of the foam, the quality of the paint, the quality of the fabric or leather, the workmanship and all the details.

Challenges and risks buying furniture from the wholesale markets

For foreigners with no experience buying from China, there are inevitable challenges and risks associated with buying furniture from the wholesale markets.

You can get higher quote

Some shops offer different prices to different buyers. This is common in China and, if I’m not mistaken, many parts of the world.

Being a foreign buyer in the market can sometimes be an disadvantage compared to buying with an agent.

Of course, I’m not saying it’s 100% the case. It’s highly dependent on the sellers at the markets.

You may not communicate clearly with the shops

Even though most sellers can speak a few words like “Hello, how are you?”, “Fine, thank you”, “Good good price”, “bye” etc., 95% of them do not speak enough English for communication.

Especially when it comes to details, you will find it hard to get yourself understood.

Sometimes you can rely on a translation app, but it’s slow and sometimes not reliable because the niche words used in the industry are not always same as what’s in the dictionary.

You can’t tell the potential quality issues

In China, for the same look of products, the quality can vary a lot depending on the materials used.

And sometimes, in order to win orders, sellers will offer lower prices. But they will use cheaper quality materials of fabric, foam, PU, metal, aluminum etc.

You need to figure out how to consolidate different products and ship to you

If you’re buying products from different shops, you’ll need someone to collect the products for you, providing a warehouse and inspect the products.

If you don’t have the resources, you’ll eventualy have to hire the service at another cost.

Shops can close without any notice

This is shocking and a hard to predict factor for your furniture business.

Know that shops usualy renew their rent at the markets in the middle of the year and if a shop decides to close their shop, they can do that without a prior notice.

Unlike a company or factory, which is an officially registered business entity, a shop can be run by an individual.

Of course, I’m not saying that an individual is more risky.

Eventually, you’ll have to figure out if the seller is trustworthy to you, being them a private company, factory or an individual.
